Using Dollar Variables in Actions

Note: Any variable written in this guide is written with a hyphen between the $ sign and the word. This is so there is no replacement of them if this guide is shared through any Halo action. When used, they should be used without a hyphen (-).


In Halo the $-variables you will see in email templates and action field default values can be used in any action. This includes private, public, hidden, system and quick actions. They are perhaps the quickest way of displaying information relevant to the ticket in an action.


How to Use $-Variables in an Action


A good example of a $-variable is $-FIRSTNAME. When used, it will be replaced in the text by the first name of the end-user of the ticket. A full list of dollar variables is attached to this guide.


A step-by-step guide of implementing this in an action is as follows: 


  1. Refer to the list of $-variables available under Configuration > Email > Emial Templates > Click on any template > Press "Edit" > Click on the link under "here". Choose a variable that pulls the information you require into the action.
  2. Place the variable(s) into the text box, finish your action and submit.
  3. You can use many variables to produce information you wish to input:
    1. If this is a non-email action this will replace the values on submission to the information associated with the ticket.

    2. If this is an email action, you will be presented the email preview screen where you can roll back and amend the content of the action should you desire.
